IPv6 in Brazil's federal government

The Stileex IPv6 Index (SIPv6) reads the federal systems of the census every week: whether their site, their mail servers and their authoritative name servers publish an IPv6 address.

On 07/09/2026, 14.4 % of the 824 federal sites of the census publish an IPv6 address; 45.8 % of the systems that receive mail have at least one mail server on IPv6, and 62.4 % of the systems have at least one authoritative name server on IPv6.

Site with an IPv6 address

14.4 %

119 of the 824 systems whose site has an address.

Mail server on IPv6

45.8 %

237 of the 517 systems that declare a mail server.

Authoritative DNS on IPv6

62.4 %

838 of the 1,344 systems whose authoritative name servers have an address.

Network by network

The 1,624 systems of the census, read on three axes: the number of systems whose IPv6 addresses each network announces. A system whose IPv6 addresses two networks announce counts under both.

Network Site Mail Authoritative DNS
NIC.br 1 1 357
Microsoft 1 136 47
Cloudflare 58 3 102
Serpro 9 3 119
Amazon Web Services 11 1 97
Google 0 78 12
Locaweb 7 4 22
Huawei Cloud 0 0 13
RNP 1 0 11
Other networks 31 11 60
Any network 14.4 % (119 / 824) 45.8 % (237 / 517) 62.4 % (838 / 1,344)

Each share in the last row is computed over the systems for which the axis places a hosting, the same base as the hosting sovereignty and public cloud indices. The named networks are listed with the method.

Among the 474 systems read on all three axes, the site, the mail and the DNS all publish an IPv6 address in 48 (10.1 %), and none of the three does in 145 (30.6 %).

The context

IPv6 is the version of the Internet Protocol that follows IPv4. LACNIC, the regional address registry for Latin America and the Caribbean, exhausted its IPv4 pool on 19 August 2020: since then, IPv4 addresses are assigned only from returned or recovered blocks.

In Brazil, more than half of users reach Google's services over IPv6, according to the figures NIC.br reported in October 2025, and the federal government's www.gov.br portal has answered over IPv6 since that same month. The index reads each system of the census under its own name, as the gov.br register lists it.

The same census is read by three other Stileex indices: hosting sovereignty · public cloud · DMARC, SPF and DNSSEC

How it is measured

Census
1,624 federal systems: the 1,610 domains of the gov.br register the Secretaria de Governo Digital publishes on dados.gov.br, plus the federal institutions outside that zone (.jus.br, .leg.br, .mil.br, .mp.br). It is the census of the hosting sovereignty index, read in the same campaign.
Cadence
One reading a week, on Mondays, in the campaign of the hosting sovereignty index: the pages of the indices read in that campaign describe the same day.
Reading
The A and AAAA records of the site (the system's domain, or its www. form when the domain itself has no address), of each mail server its MX records name and of each authoritative name server its NS records name, resolved from 1.1.1.1; each address is attributed, through the Team Cymru DNS service, to the autonomous system announcing it.
Base
Each share covers the systems for which the axis places a hosting, every address resolved and attributed: the base of the hosting sovereignty and public cloud indices. Every IPv6 address counted is therefore announced on the Internet.
IPv6
An axis counts as IPv6 when at least one of its addresses is an IPv6 address, published in an AAAA record. One mail server or one name server on IPv6 is enough for the axis to count as IPv6.
Method version
Each point carries the version of the method in force on its date, currently version 1. Read the method
The named networks
The network table names the networks listed with the method, each with the autonomous systems it announces from; the IPv6 addresses of every other network are counted together. The published shares do not depend on this list.
