How the price moves

Average monthly price of a fibre subscription, measured every day. The series builds over time.

Method

For each network in the basket, the no-commitment home-internet offers are read from the public price list of the range concerned. The index takes the cheapest fibre-to-the-home offer served at 300 Mbps downstream or above, and the market figure is the mean of those prices across networks. The price taken is the steady-state one, what the subscription costs once any introductory discount has run out, and it is a standalone price: a tariff conditioned on holding a mobile plan with the same operator is a bundle's price, not the box's. Access technology and speed are read from the offer's own page. A day publishes only when all four networks in the basket have been read. Measured every day, under the same rule for every network, and each point carries the method version and the basket version that produced it.

The basket

The French basket holds one no-commitment range per network, each read on the page where its operator publishes it: the Freebox at Free, the RED box at SFR, B&YOU Pure fibre at Bouygues Telecom and la Boîte Sosh at Orange. Every home-internet subscription in France runs on one of those four networks, so the basket is the market, and one no-commitment range per network puts four comparable entry-level ranges side by side, the index measuring the no-commitment price from one network to the next. The basket takes fibre to the home only, from 300 Mbps downstream: technology and speed are what separate offers on this market, where data volume is uncapped across the board. Tariffs reserved for an age bracket, like those reserved for the operator's own mobile customers, are collected and left outside the basket.
