Method and source
The figures come from the Ministry of Commerce price observatory, republished as a workbook by INSTAT: weekly minimum, maximum and average price readings, product by product, across 97 markets in 22 regions. Each workbook is archived verbatim, then every reading is kept at its own date and market, with no aggregation at storage.
The medians shown are computed by Stileex at read time on those official readings and labelled as such; a median keeps the central value, which one extreme market cannot move.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does rice cost in Madagascar?
- The median local-rice price of the latest surveyed month sits at the top of this page, next to imported rice. Prices vary market to market and region to region: the regional table gives the scale of the gaps.
- What are PPN goods?
- The basic-necessity products: rice, cooking oils, sugars, flour and salt, to which the observatory adds cement. They form the basket the Ministry of Commerce follows across the country's markets.
- Where do these prices come from?
- From the weekly readings of the Ministry of Commerce (MIC) price observatory, published with its statistical yearbook and republished by INSTAT. Stileex archives each edition verbatim and keeps every reading at its own date and market.
- Why a median rather than an average?
- The median keeps the central market value: one outlier market cannot move it. That makes it a robust reference for comparing regions and following time; every median is labelled as a Stileex computation.
